 | | | Definition of Normal Skin

| Finding
a "normal" skin is almost as rare as finding a good definition for one.
The best definition comes from the noted French esthetic educator and writer
H. Pierantoni, who states that "a skin may be considered normal if all its
various psycho-chemical balances have resisted for 20 to 25 years and even
longer, the aggressions to which our organism is submitted since birth."
That sounds complicated, but if we consider the skin of a healthy child,
which is normal, and has not been affected adversely by the physical changes
brought about by puberty (girls age 12, boys age 14); then the skin can
go from beautiful to bad rather rapidly. The hormones influence sebaceous
activity, and therefore playa determinant role in skin behavior, texture
and attractiveness as a whole. So we must make the distinction that the
lucky owner of this beautiful skin is generally a young, healthy adult and
has proven at the skin level, that their metabolic functions are normal.
Typically, the skin is firm because the supporting connective tissue and
muscle fibers are dense, solid and stable. The skin is supple and resilient
thanks to the numerous elastic fibers that are in excellent condition. The
fat layer is neither too thick, nor too thin and is perfect. This skin appears
"dense", overall the complexion is matte - it secretes just enough sebum.
The texture of the skin is itself very fine. There are no visible "pores"
and it is very smooth the basal layer is biologically active, providing
constant renovation of the skin cells. In fair-haired people, this skin
will appear almost transparent. The blood circulation is active (rosy cheeks)
and the coloring is even, which is why poets write about this skin. |

While we have mentioned that internal factors play an important part in the deterioration of skin, the external factors of sun exposure, climatic factors, and environmental pollution remain, in most cases, the principal causes. Since normal skin generally is not causing any problems, neglect through insufficient, inappropriate cleansing routines and the refusal to protect the skin by the daily use of a moisture cream, as well as a complete sun block, are the primary destroyers of its delicate, and therefore, precarious beauty.
