Best Oily Skin Regimen For Shine-Free Complexion
When you have a skin type other than normal, it always requires a little more effort to care for it. Oily skin has been a more challenging skin type to get balanced. Trying to find a regimen or product that keeps the shine away but feeling hydrated can take a little trial and error. With that said, unnecessary waste of money and time can be saved with some tips on how to care for oily skin, and what products to use.
Characteristics Of Oily Skin
Oily skin is a result of an overproduction of the sebaceous glands located under the skin. Sebum is good for protecting and keeping skin moisturized, but when there’s an excess of oil, it can lead to clogged pores and acne breakouts. Those with oily skin have a greasy appearance, with the T-zone being the shiniest. Other characteristics of oily skin are enlarged pores, less visible wrinkles, makeup wears off easily, and acne.
Oily Skin Regimen
- Cleanse: Those with oily skin should wash the face in the morning, at night, and after exercise. Over-washing the face can make the skin feel dry and trigger your skin to produce more oil. Gel and foam cleansers are best for oily skin types. They are designed for deep cleansing and is effective in decongesting clogged pores, removing excess sebum, and killing acne-causing bacteria.
- Tone: A good toner will balance the oily skin and further unclog pores. Do not use a toner that is over-drying, which can lead to more oil production. Look for products containing beta-hydroxy acids, alpha-hydroxy acids, or poly-hydroxy acids that are effective in treating oily skin. Toners with clay are also beneficial because of its oil-absorbing and skin purifying benefits.
- Exfoliate: Oily skin types tend to be more prone to acne breakouts. Exfoliating the skin helps to remove the build-up of dead skin cells. Exfoliant with glycolic acid reduces excess oil production and prevents the plugging of pores that lead to breakouts.
- Moisturize: Oily skin and hydrated skin are different. Moisturizers add water to the surface, which is beneficial in preventing various issues. Use a lightweight moisturizer with SFP during the daytime to reduce the risk of premature aging. For nighttime, opt for gels with repairing properties that won’t clog pores.
